Another fantastic attraction in Cavan is the River Shannon. The Shannon is the largest river in Ireland, and is fully navigable by pleasure craft. The river flows from Cavan to Limerick, a distance of 360km. From Cavan, the River Shannon is navigable to Lough Erne through 40 miles of river and canals. This stretch offers unspoilt views of the River Shannon, surrounding countryside and Lough Erne. The Shannon / Erne waterway travels through small towns and villages and will take 13-14 hours to navigate.
