Dublin city has a rich history, most notably the 1916 Easter Rising which triggered a fight for independence from British rule. To this day bullet holes can be seen lining the facade of the GPO on O’Connell Street. Another must see is Trinity College, the oldest university in Ireland dating back to Elizabethan times. Many historic figures are connected to Trinity such as Oscar Wilde and Douglas Hyde. Trinity College is also home to The Book of Kells, a manuscript containing a richly decorated copy of the four gospels in a Latin text dating back to the 9th century.
