London Heathrow Airport location

London Heathrow is the U.K’s largest airport and is the busiest in Europe ranked by passenger traffic. Located just 20 miles west of London city centre, it is an ideal location to start your adventure in London. While London City is the main destination for arrivals to Heathrow it would be a shame to miss out on the world famous attractions in Heathrow Airport’s surrounding area.

The twin towns of Windsor and Eton are a short drive west of the airport. Visitors will be treated to a surreal English atmosphere that will evoke feelings of upper class grandeur upon seeing the school boys dressed in formal tailcoats wandering the streets of tiny Eton or watching the changing of the guard at the famous WIndsor Castle. Windsor town centre is home to a number of up market boutiques, grand cafes and trendy restaurants while Eton offers a number of antique shops and art galleries. Windsor Castle is a must see for any visitors in the area as it the largest and oldest occupied fort in the world dating back to William the Conqueror in the 11th Century. It is an official residence of Her Majesty The Queen and is still very much a working royal palace today, home to around 150 people. The castle is used regularly for ceremonial and state occasions, including state visits from overseas monarchs and presidents. There are free guided and multilingual audio tours on offer at the castle.

For car lovers the London Motor Museum is located only a couple of miles north of Heathrow Airport and is home to one of the largest collections of both classic and custom automobiles in Europe. The collection dates back to the 1930s and includes gems such as a 1937 Auburn Speedster, a 1967 ‘Eleanor’ GT500, and a 1937 Lincoln Zephyr to name but a few. Exhibits include The Movie Car Section, The Bat-Cave (home to both the 1966 and 1989 Batmobile), Muscle Car Alley, The Supercar Paddock (home to some of the fastest cars in the world), and much more.
