Laying in the deep, blue Mediterranean, just south of Sicily and east of Tunisia, the tiny paradise of the Maltese Islands can attract over on million visiting tourists per year, especially in the summer months when the country becomes a playground for younger party-goers. However, with a history and heritage that goes back many thousands of years, there is far more to Malta than merely drinking and sunshine. A popular Mediterranean diving spot, there are shallow dips for beginners and deeper dives for the more experienced, who may find World War II relics down there. Malta is famed for its sandy beaches, while the smaller islands of Gozo and Camino offer some slightly rockier coastlines that are ideal for snorkelling. Outside the towns of Malta, life is a little quieter, but the small size of the country means that the natural wonders that have formed over millions of years are never far away.

The City of Valletta – A walled city, largely consisting of 16th century Baroque buildings and churches, described by British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli as “a city of palaces built by gentlemen for gentlemen”, the town is a labyrinth of narrow streets and piazzas, noisy with bars and restaurants, and with the restrictions on traffic mean cars are a rare site, so it feels like a different era. During any one of the many carnivals or festivals, the populace will burst into the streets to create a loud, electric but, most importantly, safe and fun atmosphere that is never to be forgotten. Thanks to the stunning architecture, numerous art museums and the newly built Saint James Cavalier Centre of Creativity, Valletta has been designated 2018's European Capital of Culture.

The Island of Gozo – A brief and affordable ferry ride away is the second island of Gozo. A more relaxed region than the main island, with a more scenic, rolling hill landscape and a quieter way of life. Beautiful sandy beaches still surround the island, but so do other amazing sights. The Ggantija temples from approximately 3600 BC are the oldest free standing structures in the world. The Azure Window is an astonising natural feature, a stone arch formed by the collapse of a limestone cave, and a popular spot for divers. In fact, Gozo is considered to be amongst the top diving location in the Mediterranean.
