Knock Airport Location
Ireland West Airport Knock is located in County Mayo about 5 kilometres south of Charlestown. Primarily serving the sparsely populated Connacht province, Knock is the gateway to Ireland's rugged north western coastal areas. Most visitors take advantage of cheap car hire in Knock Airport to explore on their own, although bus and taxi service are also available.
The passenger terminal is located in the middle of the airport campus. The runway lies to the south of the terminal with parking to the north and a lot for rental cars to the west. Europcar's desk is easily found in the Main Arrivals Hall.
The main motorway leading from Knock Airport is the N17, which runs roughly north-to-south. The town of Claremorris is about 30 kilometres to the south of the airport at the junction with the N60. This is where you can find the closest rail station as well as a number of hotels and shopping options. The city of Sligo, with its historic Sligo Abbey, lies 55 kilometres to the north, and the City of Galway is 90 kilometres to the south. Other attractions within easy driving distance along the N17 include Ashford Castle (65 kilometres to the south west) and Carrowkeel Megalithic Cemetery (50 kilometres to the north).
Travellers willing to venture farther afield will be rewarded with the rugged landscape of the coastline. Connemara National Park lies just more than 100 kilometres to the south west of the airport. Aside from breathtaking vistas of the green hills and brilliant blue sea, the region offers white-sand beaches at Dogs Bay and Renvyle as well as coral beaches at Tra an Doilin in Carraroe.
