Everything You Need to Know About Hybrid Car Rental

These days, drivers have a wide range of choices when it comes to what type of vehicle they drive. Traditionalists may prefer a car with the reliable power of a standard combustion engine.

Others may choose an environmentally friendly and economical all-electric vehicle. But there’s no reason why you can’t have the best of both automotive worlds!

With Europcar’s hybrid car rental services, you can get all the power of a combustion engine coupled with the economy and reduced emissions of an electric engine. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!

Why Hiring a Hybrid Car is a Great Idea

The first reason to hire a hybrid is that driving a vehicle that has both an electric and a combustion engine will greatly reduce your impact on the environment.

Electric car engines produce no CO2 emissions and emit lower amounts of harmful greenhouse gases like nitrous oxide and methane. You’ll also be using less petrol and less oil than you would driving a car powered by a standard combustion engine. You can drive wherever you want to go while producing fewer emissions and using less resources. Both Mother Nature and your wallet win!

Because they run on two different types of fuel, you can save money driving a hybrid. The engines in hybrid cars switch between thermal and electric modes, so a full battery charge gets you a lot further than just a full tank of petrol.

Hybrids have enhanced driveability compared to normal cars. There are no gears in a hybrid car, just like a fully electric car. That means you don’t need to worry about changing gears or working a clutch and you’ll get all the torque of the engine right away. Once you hit a high speed, the car will automatically switch to its combustion engine, extending your battery range and making sure you get power when you need it.

Hybrids are also considerably quieter than combustion engine-powered vehicles. This makes them perfect for long trips with babies or young kids. That immediate power also makes a hybrid much more responsive than a normal combustion engine car, so they’re also great for city driving.

There’s also the added convenience of driving a hybrid car. Low on petrol and can’t find a good place to fill the tank? Look for a charging point! Low on battery charge and can’t find a charging point? Head to the nearest petrol station!

What’s the Difference Between a Normal Car and a Hybrid Car?

Drivers like to stay within their comfort zones and stick with vehicles they are familiar with. But there’s no need to be nervous about driving a hybrid car for the first time. While there are some differences to full combustion engines, vehicles powered by hybrid engines are easy and enjoyable to drive. In most respects, driving a hybrid car is essentially the same as driving a normal car, but with a few added quirks.

Since hybrids don’t have gears, they don’t need to build up power when you first start them. You can go from zero to 60 kilometres an hour in much less time than with a combustion engine. All this power can be great when you need to take off in a hurry but watch out as you don’t run your battery down!

You should also watch out for the braking differences in hybrid vehicles. These vehicles slow down considerably when you take your foot off the accelerator, so many drivers only use the brake pedal for parking or when they have to stop suddenly. This can take some getting used to. But Hybrids also have regenerative braking, so the engine will automatically start to recharge whenever the accelerator is released, or you touch the brake while the car is in electric mode.
