Kerry Airport Location
Kerry Airport (KIR) is situated in the village of Farranfore in County Kerry in the south-western Republic of Ireland. The N23 motorway runs directly past the airport grounds, less than two kilometres from the junction with the N22. With cheap car hire in Kerry Airport, you are just minutes from the open road of Munster Province and beyond. Buses and taxis also provide transportation to and from the terminal, and a train station is within walking distance.
Also referred to as the Farranfore Airport, KIR consists of one main terminal building to the north-west of the airport grounds, surrounded by parking areas to the east and south-west and by runways and other buildings to the south and east. Europcar's service desk can easily be found in the main Arrivals Hall.
To get to the town of Killarney, take the N23 south-west to the N22, and then proceed south around 10 kilometres. As tourism is the primary industry there, Killarney is well-equipped to accommodate travellers and features an ample array of hotels, restaurants, night clubs and scenic spots. Killarney National Park, a preserve of natural forest and wildlife, is less than 5 kilometres to the south of the town. Killarney is also the starting point of the Ring of Kerry, a scenic trail encircling the Iveragh Peninsula.
Another popular waypoint is Tralee town (around 20 kilometres north-west of the airport), the gateway to the extensive and mountainous Dingle Peninsula. Drive north on the N22 around 12 kilometres and then take the exit to the N21 and follow the signs.
Kerry Airport is also an alternative landing site for travellers who wish to tour the countryside on the way to Cork (100 kilometres) or Limerick (95 kilometres).
