Are you coming to Ireland to compete in Challenge Galway this June? Is this your first time travelling abroad for a race? Or have your past few events not gone as swimmingly as you thought? At Europcar, we want to help you plan ahead.
Before leaving, make sure you book space for your bike on the flight. Let your airline know well in advance so that you can have one less task to worry about. Next up, the weather. Challenge Galway is taking place well into the Irish Summer, more than likely you will complete the event in some glorious sunshine but you could start the event in summer conditions and finish in a downpour such is the unpredictability of our climate, so make sure that you are prepared for all eventualities by having the appropriate gear such as an option of short or long sleeves with you on race day.
There are many items you wouldn’t find an experienced triathlete without such as Garmin Forerunner 920XT, it will record your entire race from start to finish ad allow you to look at your times during and after the race. Also, a race belt can be very important. Why compete in the race if you’re not going to have picture to show off to your friends? A race belt will hold your competition number so that photographers can easily identify you and you can easily find your race photos!
Next up, when you finish the swim in the Galway Bay a smooth transition from the swim to the bike is key. The best tip I can give for this is to have a ‘transition towel or mat’ placed on or around your bike. A transition towel will make your bike easily identifiable amongst the hundreds of other bikes around. Most triathletes invest time into finding the craziest looking towels so they don’t waste precious time searching for their bike.
Now that all of your gear is looked after and you have ensured that you, your bike and the rest of your equipment has made it to Ireland safely, you’re probably wondering how to get from the Airport to your accommodation without expending too much energy! If you are a participant in Challenge Galway, take advantage of Europcar’s free upgrade to a car with a bigger boot to transport your bike & equipment to your Challenge Galway event. This offer will entitle you to an upgrade from the car you reserved to the next size car! The offer applies for pick up from 20th June to 27th June and of course will be subject to availability, so to avoid disappointment make sure you book early.
Whether you’re landing in Dublin, Cork or Shannon Airport or even if you want to pick up from one of our 16 different locations nationwide, we have the car that’s right for you.
Last but not least, we at Europcar would like to wish each and every contestant the very best of luck.
