The old town houses the ancient fortifications and defenses, including the Bock fort and the underground Casemates, and historic landmarks like the Grand Ducal Palace, the 18th century Cathedral of Notre-Dame, and the beautiful Adolphe Bridge spanning the valley, are all within walking distance. The Grund, in the valley itself, once considered a poor part of the city, has become popular of late for its lively nightlife, narrow medieval streets and many old-time restaurants.

Vianden – A small town near the German border that sits in a wonderful setting on the River Our, beneath the painstakingly restored 11th and 14th century Vianden Castle that stands high above the river. The town is also known for its old-world feel, and a chair lift that reaches a restaurant in the mountains, high above the castle.
